Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but settled in Wales, I am an emerging artist working with the concepts of belonging and misplacement. I am interested in the liminality of places. I believe that landscape can bring us a sense of belonging and the contrasting feeling of being in between environments intrigues me. I am constantly drawn to the similarities I can encounter in different spaces. Sometimes geographical structures, the colours, or textures of a place resemble each other, although in different corners of the world. I see them as points of intersection which fuel and inspire my creative practice.
I understand my practice as a form of three-dimensional drawing. I create complex amorphous forms that reflect my interpretations of different landscapes I visited. Sometimes they take a sculptural form and other times they become vessels. They speak of our longing for a sense of place and the desire to connect with nature. I work with the natural qualities and colours of the fired clay. Their earthiness enhances the sense of land and place, alluding to natural formations we can encounter in different environments.
